It’s a concept that it simple enough but so easily over looked. “For ye forgive men their trespasses, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you” Matthew 6:14 I know I want to be forgiven for the sins that I commit daily but when it comes to forgiving others for the things they have done to me personal it gets a little more complicated. As humans we have these feelings of self righteousness when a crime is committed agents us. That we are owed the world in order to feel satisfied and be able to get to a place of forgiveness. We demand justice and sometimes even want revenge. It’s funny how we think we deserve so much and for what?! Are we blameless and never need forgiveness from God or other people? I think not. Actually I know not! We are quick to want to be forgiven and often slow to forgive.
In many ways Jesus ask for far less from us than we ask of each other. He says ask him for forgiveness and have your heart in the right place and that’s it. He will forgive you. Unlike us he doesn’t expect pleading or even proving our sorrow over and over for the things we have done he just says ask and of course I’ll forgive you. Pretty amazing!
Next time you need to extend forgiveness think of how he so easily and lovingly forgives you. Every time. Always. No matter what the offense.
