Philippians 3:20 “but our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a savior from there, the lord Jesus Christ”
Do you ever feel like you don’t belong. Maybe when you are out at a party and all the other girls or guys are chatting away and you just think to yourself “hum I really feel out of place here.” Maybe when your at school, work or sometimes even hanging out with your own family. I’ve been many places throughout life and just thought ” man I really don’t fit in here.” You know what? It’s ok to feel like a misfit! We don’t belong here. We weren’t made for this world to be our everlasting home. We are only visiting for a short while. We were created for such a different world than the fallen and broken one we exist in now. When earth was first created it was perfection, lovely and peaceful. Adam and Eve had it made. They walked in unison with the animals, ate and drank at their will.Genesis 31 “And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good…” Then the Fallen angel deceived them. As they gave into their own desires and didn’t trust that the lord would give them what they needed the wonderful world as they knew it no longer exist. There is now a great rift between heaven and earth. Our lives are harder and we will have an longing for the perfect relationship and home that once was until we are reunited with the Lord.
As Christians we should feel uncomfortable and out of places in certain situations. If we are comfortable and completely happy with our life. Somthin’ ain’t right! We are called to walk differently than everyone else. Not called to blend in with others but to stand out as a light for Him. So that people can see His love through us. Having the amazing gift of eternal life means that sometimes we may have to face certain discomfort like not belonging. That constant feeling of dissatisfaction or un-belonging is a deep rooted longing to be home. We will always feel a bit awkward and unsatisfied until the day we get to be with the one and only who we belong with and that’s ok by me. Fitting in hasn’t ever really been my thing anyway.
Don’t let this discourage you by saying we will not ever be fully satisfied or happy here. God absolutely has a plan for us here in this life. We can have a glorious and blessed life here. God can and will do wonderful things for you here. I am often reminding myself, and by often I mean every few hours as I am dissatisfied frequently, that Jesus does want us to be fruitful and wants us to be happy. I know he can not wait to show me my true potential in its entirety on the day I am by his side! Until then I will remind myself that it is ok to feel out of place from time to time and that one day soon I will never feel that feeling again.
